  1. “Restore Windows and Tabs on Startup” doesn’t work. I have two panels, one local on my computer, other remote on a server, I navigate in both synchronized. The local is restored where I was when leaving Forklift but the server opens on root.

  2. Hi, you open a .dmg file with ForkLift: the image mounts normally and you can access all of its contents. Perfect.

To unmount this volume, click on the small icon (arrow) to the right behind the name of the volume mounted in the sidebar, but then it is impossible to remount it again during the entire session by opening the original .dmg file: ForkLift does not know reopen an already mounted image.

With macOS Disk Utility, you can unmount this volume, otherwise, you can also unmount the volume with a contextual click on its icon on the desktop.

This bug has persisted for many versions!…

    1. This issue was also in FL3, ForkLift for some reason has never done a proper full unmount the way Apple Disk Utility does it. For ex. an encrypted volume, if you unmount it from FL 3/4, you can remount it without having to enter the password again which is a potential security issue. You have to unmount the volume from Apple Disk Utility it order for the volume to be properly/fully unmounted.

      1. That is a different issue, which is out of our hands because the command that we should use to eject a disk, only unmounts it and doesn’t fully eject it, so you can open it again without the password. This other issue makes it impossible to mount the drive again. It is possible that the two issues are connected though.

        1. Thank you for the explanation, it is possible the issues are related but I cannot tell from my side.

  3. After installing latest version my colour tags are still gray. On 14.4.1
Is there any user action required to rectify this?

    1. As it has turned out, we hadn’t fixed all the tags in this version but another fix will be released in the next update, which hopefully will fix all gray tags in the iCloud Drive.

  4. I’ve patiently waited to purchase the upgrade to version 4, just to be sure that most of the inevitable issues was squashed out.
And yesterday I finally bought the two years upgrade and … I’m regretting the purchase.
But instead asking a refund, I’m here to find solutions to the issues I’ve encountered that, considering the long developing time frame you took, are really unexpected. Here what I’ve found so far :

    1) view settings are lost after a while (generally the second/third time I re-open the app) : this is really frustrating !

    2) archives management is sketchy at best : all files, including folders, are represented by a blank page icon.
As a side note I’ve would like to point out that one reason I bought ForkLift in first place (I’m ForkLift user since version 2) was the archives management feature which is quite handy. I hoped for some improvements and in fact you state in your website that “You can even Quick Look, search and filter”.
Where’s the Quick Look feature ? What type of archives is possible to open ?

    3) search doesn’t work on SMB shares

    4) I’m now exploring the one-way folders sync feature but it seems that there’s a regression about the excluded items : if you make a sync of all files but decided to exclude some files in a later sync operation (for space constraints for example), the only way to do this is to delete the destination and remake the sync. Could you confirm ?

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

    1. I’m sorry that you are not satisfied with ForkLift 4.

Please answer these questions in an email at support [at] binarynights [dot] com:

      1. We are not aware of issues with the view settings, what settings get lost and how? If possible, send us a screen recording of this issue.

      2. Are the items represented by a blank page icon generally or inside archives? Please send us a screenshot and a screenshot of your View Settings (Command-J). You can Quick Look, search and filter inside the archives, when you treat them as folders or when you right click an archive and select Show Archive Content.

      3. Search should work on SMB. However, if you select the Spotlight Network option to search the network, then that option is not working, which is an issue in Spotlight and not in ForkLift, we can’t fix that. If you open the SMB share and use ForkLift’s own search engine, which are the options on the top of the list when you click the magnifying glass icon in the search bar, then the search works without issues. For example, if you select “by Name”, then ForkLift will filter by name on the share (in the open folder) if you also check the Search in Subfolders option, then ForkLift will search recursively.

      4. I’m sorry but I don’t really understand this question but there is no regression in the exclude options. If you have synced everything over, then I don’t understand how you would want to exclude items that are already synced over? Please try to explain this use case in more detail in the email.

      1. Thanks for your prompt response … maybe I rushed too early.

        1. Once I modified the view settings for each workspaces and SAVED them the problem is gone (maybe the imported workspaces was the culprit)
        2. The items INSIDE the archive are blank page icon. I’ll send a screen recording ASAP.
        3. My bad … sorry
        4. My bad this too … rare case scenario I solved with a custom script a while ago and I forgot it … really sorry.
        My apologies to everyone @binarynights

  5. There’s a severe memory leak (occupying tens of GB or more) when I’m trying to sync between a local disk folder and a Google Drive folder. I’m using Forklift 4.1.2 on macOS 14.5 (apple silicon).

  6. Just switched to this from Finder and FileZilla and absolutely loving it; convenient functions like favouriting syncs are super helpful for a better workflow.

One thing I’d love to see, however, is nested folders in the favourites. Only a single folder is an unfortunate limitation, but otherwise loving the product!

    Keep up the good work!

    1. Adding nested favorites is on our feature request list but whenever we considered adding that option in the past, we opted not to add it. It is still possible that we will ad that in the future.

In ForkLift, you can create Favorite groups and you can group favorites into those groups. When you hover over the group title in the sidebar, you can collapse and expand the favorite groups with the arrows that show up. You can create favorite groups from the Favorites menu. Groups can partly replace nested favorites.

  7. Hi, I don’t know if this is a function (or a bug), but if you double-click in a free, empty area without an icon in a ForLift 4 window, you go up a notch in the hierarchy files!… Very practical and very clever!…

    1. At me hat only works, if you set view > as icons, or view > as list. If you use view > as columns, the double click in a free area has no effect.

      1. You’re right R2h… And you shouldn’t play with this “function” too much, because after a while, the display of the contents of the window is nonsense… So, it’s a “bug”…

    2. That was a feature in ForkLift but because of some issues we have removed that feature. It seems, that the feature was only removed from list view. We will either remove it everywhere or we will investigate if we can add it back in List view as well.
What are the issues exactly when you double-click too many times and in which view?

      1. Response: The elements displayed no longer make sense, with columns in which there are only chevrons for example. No more relevant information about the contents of the folder is displayed correctly. Chaos!…

If I may, I find your way of developing functions very anarchic and very unstructured: either we set up a new function, we name it, we test it completely and we document it in the online Help, or we are completely removing it from the development schedule!…

There should be no half measures: it has to work all the time!…

Finally, I have a dream: to perform swipe gestures on my Magic Mouse to navigate through my folders… with ForkLift 4!…
