  1. Is there a way to specify which Keychain file to use to store ssh private key passphrases?  I don’t want to use the system default Keychain which is now synced to iCloud.

    Thanks!

    1. It is not possible to change the keychain file, the passwords get saved into the file which gets synced to the cloud.

  2. Are you implementing a widget some time? It would be nice to have access to the recent files or the most opened files via widget. Is there anything like that on you roadmap?

    1. Currently, we don’t have plans to add widgets to ForkLift. However, could you clarify what exactly you mean by a widget?

If you are referring to having access to recent or most opened files, we do have some related features in mind. Adding “Recents” to the sidebar—similar to the way Finder displays recently opened files—is already on our to-do list. This feature would show recently opened files in the sidebar for quick access.

We had started working on this idea previously, but it turned out to be more complex than expected, so we paused development. That said, we plan to revisit the idea and investigate how we could successfully implement it. As for a “Most Opened Files” option, we will evaluate whether it makes sense to develop, given that it may overlap with the Recents feature.

It might be good to know that you can add Smart Folders to the sidebar of ForkLift. You can create a Smart Folder in Finder, which shows your recent files and then add it to ForkLift. In your case, the search should be Last opened date – within – X – days, for example 10 days.

Here is what you should do:

      1. Right click the Finder icon in the Dock

      2. Select New Smart Folder

      3. Press the plus button next to the Save button in top right part of the window to add search rules

      4. From the drop-down menu select the search attribute you want to use. If it is not in the list, then select Other and then choose it from the extended list.

      5. Set up your search criteria using the other menus and fields that are needed

      6. Select ‘This Mac’

      7. Click Save. Finder automatically wants to save the smart folder into the Saved Searches folder, don’t change that location. Name your smart folder and save i

      8. In ForkLift select Go > Go to Folder from the menu or use the Command-Shift-G keyboard shortcut to open the Go to Folder window and paste the following path into the window and press Enter: ~/Library/Saved Searches

      9. Select the smart folder you created and drag it over the sidebar of ForkLift to the location where you want to place it.

      1. I don’t think this is working… I have a Saved Search to filter a folder to only display .png/.mp4 files… I followed the steps you listed, but clicking the item from the sidebar instead (for some reason) lists .app files. The smart folder in Finder behaves and works as expected.

Also, when a context menu is displayed for a selected item can you add the ability to hold down Option to give us “Always Open With” like we see in Finder.

Lastly, none of my “Quick Actions” are accessible in the context menu. Is there something ForkLift needs to expose in the app or a privacy setting I need to authorize to have those appear?

        1. Sorry, last thing! The option to “Swap Panes” only swaps the **current** tab in each that I’m on. I want to be able to swap **all** of the tabs on the left pane to the right pane, and vice versa. Can you please add a “Flip Panes” or something like that to allow that to happen? Thanks.

        2. If you add the same saved search in ForkLift, then it should have the same content. The saved search is a folder, so if you open it in ForkLift, it has to have the same content. The only difference is that Forklift limits the output to either 1000 or 10000 items. Please make sure that you have added the same search in ForkLift. Also try to create a new smart folder and then add it to ForkLift again.

I have added your suggestion about the Always open with context menu item to our feature request list. You can set the app to always open a selected file or files with the same extension in the Info window (Preview pane or Command-I) in the Open with section.

The Quick Actions are visible under Services in ForkLift. In Finder there are 2 separate items for Services and Quick Actions. The relevant Quick Actions should be automatically displayed. That is managed by the macOS and not by ForkLift.

Swap panes only swaps the tabs, not the panes, so the name of the command is not the best. Allowing swapping the entire panes is on our feature request list.

  3. Scrolling with magic mouse on mac becomes very slow after using it for a while. Is there any way to solve this problem?
This symptom has been going on since ver.3.

    1. I’m sorry that you are experiencing this issue, however this is the first time we have received such a report, either in ForkLift 3 or ForkLift 4. Unfortunately, without being able to reproduce the issue, it’s challenging for us to investigate further.

During our beta testing, we surveyed our users on Twitter about their input devices, and 21% reported using a Magic Mouse. If this scrolling issue were widespread, we would likely have received more reports about it.

To help narrow down the cause, we suggest testing ForkLift with a different Magic Mouse or on a different Mac, if possible. This can help determine whether the issue is specific to your device or system configuration. Please let us know if you can find out something.

      1. I have tried everything since then, and while I don’t know the cause, I have found a solution.
It seems that memory had accumulated while continuing to work on the Mac, and this was affecting Folklift.
Therefore, I solved the problem by freeing the memory of Mac.

However, since I frequently get the same symptoms, I would be happy to find some solution in the future.

        Thanks.

  4. All Commands are now grayed out. No sync or other commands under forklift 4.1.9 (442) 29.10.24 and macOS 15.1.1.

    any ideas?

    1. Are two panes open or only one? If here is only one pane, then you can’t sync, move or copy to the other pane. If there is only one pane, then open two panes. We are not aware of any issues with the commands, so if there are two panes and those commands are still grayed out, then please contact us in an email at support [at] binarynights [dot] com and send us a screen recording or a screenshot of the entire ForkLift window and the opened Commands menu. (First restart your Mac and check the issue again.)

  5. BUG: It seems Forklift 4 has problems to move a huge number of files from one directory to another (on the same drive). I tried to move 8000 small files from one directory to another directory (on the same drive). But after 2040 files Forklift stops moving files. All other moving operations remain in the task list with the status “wait”. So I killed Forklift and try to move the other 5960 files. But the same thing happens. After moving 2040 files Forklift does nothing more. The task button shows activities and you can see the remaining files in the task list. But nothing more happens.

    1. Moving files on the same drive should be very fast. It is not the file data that is moved, but only the information about where it is located.

    2. What drive was that (an external drive or a drive in a NAS, etc?) and were the files on the same volume as well? What happens if you click the play button of individual files after the transfer stops?
