    1. Thank you for sharing your opinion. We have addressed this topic several times: the keyboard selection was removed from ForkLift and we are not planning to bring it back.

Out of curiosity, if you are using a competing product that offers this feature, we would love to know what keeps bringing you back to ForkLift’s blog. Is there something about ForkLift that you appreciate more? We would genuinely value your insights on what stands out to you about ForkLift compared to other file managers.

      1. I am using midnight commander since Forklift is broken. And the reason I come back here from time to time is my hope that the decision on this topic will be reconsidered in the future. Since such a feature is an fundamental one for every file manager.

All other gui finder alternatives are just not as good as Forklift was and suck in one way or another.

          1. I will, but that will not stop me from asking for this feature from time to time. If that bothers you, just ignore my comments.

  1. In version 4.2.4, when I change directory on local filesystem (m1 mac) sometimes activities indicator is start blinking on red, and forklift use much cpu.  On local ?

I downloaded 4.2.1. This version is so mutch faster than 4.2.4.
    Please fix this issue.

    1. The red progress bar is a macOS Sequoia issue, this red color can be found in other apps as well and Apple needs to fix that issue. When you change folders, there is a progress, so if the progress bar is red because of the Sequoia bug, then you probably see it only for a very short time because the progress finishes very quickly.

We are not aware of performance issues or too much CPU usage in version 4.2.4. If you see that, then please send us a screen recording where we can see the difference between the two versions (with the same amount of tabs, same locations open, same activities, etc.) and/or if there is a hang, then take a sample in the Activity Monitor app. To do that, you need to open the Activity Monitor and search for ForkLift in the list of apps and select it. Click the 3 dots in the toolbar and select Sample Process. The sample has to be taken when ForkLift hangs or when it uses a lot of memory/cpu. Should you take a sample or a recording, please send it to us via email at support [at] binarynights [dot] com

      1. Hi!

        I sent a screen recording.
not a big difference but you can clearly feel the 4.2.4 version is much slower when changing multiple directory in short time

      2. The difference of two version (4.2.1 4.2.4) is much more significant when browsing on network folder (SMB Share). 4.2.4 is dramatically slower

        1. Thank you for the recording. We were able to find the issue and tried to fix it. Hopefully, the next version will be quicker.

  2. In a folder with multiple files, select “Sort by type” and click to change the sort order.

This was not a symptom in previous versions.

    1. If you mean grouping and not sorting, then we are aware of the issue, if you mean sorting, then unfortunately, I don’t see an issue, so please explain what happens when you change the sort order and why that is bad.

      1. I made the mistake of “grouping by type.” I was stressed because of this behavior frequently.
I have reverted to ver. 4.1.9, so it is OK for now.
We look forward to the next version.

        1. Yes, the group by feature is buggy in the two recent versions. According to our plans, it will work correctly in the next version.

      1. Thank you for reporting this problem. We tried to fix the issue, hopefully the next version will be much quicker.

  3. Does this version fix the problem with the 1Password ssh agent integration ? (ssh keys password is asked instead of 1Password agent handling the key). ForkLift is asking for a new license here, and I would be happy to do so if the problem is corrected.

    1. There is no issue with the 1Password ssh agent integration itself. The problem is most likely the Include statement in your config file. If there is an Include statement, then integration doesn’t work. That issue isn’t fixed but we are currently working on something that will fix the issue. It is likely that we will release a beta version soon to test the new integration, so please keep an eye out for that.

      1. Thank you very much for your reply. I have no Include in my .ssh/config, but may be you are talking about another config file. Happy to hear that a solution may arrive soon and will try future beta.

        1. I’m talking about the config file in the .ssh folder. If there is no Include statement, then 1 Password should work with ForkLift if everything is set up correctly. At least, we are not aware of other issues.

You should follow the steps on this site: https://developer.1password.com/docs/ssh/get-started/

You have most likely done most of these things, this part from step 4 is the important one:

Insert the following into your config file:

          Host *
          IdentityAgent “~/Library/Group Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.1password/t/agent.sock”

After this, you should be able to connect in ForkLift using the private key stored in 1Password.

          1. Thank you very much for all this details. Yes, everything is set up and working great with 1Password agent (terminal ssh, scp) for all servers. With Forklift, some servers connect correctly, and some others ask for a password for the public key. All servers are configured the same way in .ssh/config

            1. That’s weird. Let’s wait for the beta of the other ssh implementation to see if you have the same issue with that version as well. Please let us know when the beta comes out. If you have the same issue, we will investigate it.

    1. We will explore the possibility of allowing users to choose where to save their passwords, but this is not something we plan to implement in the near future.

  4. Dear Forklift-Team

Here is a brief, meaningful test:
A folder with 10.33 GB data size (folder content consisting of 27 Tiff images, with 382.8 MB each) is duplicated on our host file server, so simply duplicate the folder via Copy–> Paste.

    These are the times:
    with Forklift 3.5.6 = 9 min. 54 sec.
    with Forklift 4.2.4 = 8 min. 35 sec.
    with Finder (macOS 15.3.1) = 0 min. 33 sec.

For us, as a prepress department in the advertising technology industry, with a focus on large format printing, you can imagine what this means… At the moment it only works directly with the macOS Finder. I really hope that this will improve drastically with Forklift (we love Forklift).

    Kind regards

      1. We access our host file servers with a 1 Gbit/s Internet line.
The protocol is SMB. Windows-Server 2022 is in use at the host.

        The R/W speeds are also around 20 – maximum 23 Mb/s

It would be really great if you could solve this.
Forklift is simply extremely helpful if you can juggle everything around in one window with tabs with several volumes/servers etc. via secure workspaces. I like the interface very much and it is clear, elegant and slim compared to other competing products.

        Best regards

        1. Could you please test what happens when you upload and download a single big file with ForkLift and Finder? Please time the transfers and also share what the average speed is. If you want, you can also send us screen recordings. Please share the info in an email at support [at] binarynights [dot] com

    1. I’m observing the same here:
Connecting from MBP14″ to my NAS to Share via SMB showing the following:
      Forklift 4.2.4 :  R/W speed 20-25MB/s
      Finder : R/W speed 60-70MB/s

This is not since 4.2.4 but  since several months – unfortunately I cannot say when it started. I was just hoping that the problem will be fixed before my update plan ends in March.

      1. Please test what happens when you upload and download a single big file with ForkLift and Finder. Please time the transfers and also share what the average speed is. If you want, you can also send us screen recordings. Please share the info in an email at support [at] binarynights [dot] com

  5. Guys as much as I love forklift, it still misses some basics.
Autofit / size columns… whats the point of having a Name column extend miles and all the other ones hidden.
As for features pls get some ideas from Directory Opus…
    Copy folder structures without contents.
Link tabs from one pane to the other with locks and color coding etc.

    1. 1. The “Always resize name column” setting is available in list view. It only changes the width of the name column to fit all other columns if they can be fit. You should enable that setting on the View Option Panel (Command-J) and then resize the window so that the pane, in which you have changed the setting, becomes big enough to display all columns. Then make the window smaller and the Name column will shrink. You should do the same in the other pane as well (and in all open tabs).

      2. You can use the Sync feature and filters to only sync over folders without the files in them. To do that, open the source and target locations and start Sync. Enable Synchronize Subfolders, Add items (Don’t enable Don’t add empty folders) and Enable Exclude items. At the top of the window, in the filters, choose: None of the following are true and add the filter: Kind is folder Apply to all. – That will only sync over the folders.

I have also added this as a feature request but this was the first time this has been requested, so I don’t think that this will have a high priority.

      3. If you have specific feature requests, then please contact us in an email and explain what those features do because unfortunately, I don’t know what “Link tabs from one pane to the other with locks and color coding etc.” means.

Please send the feature requests at support [at] binarynights [dot] com and explain what those features do.

  7. Hi

I have noticed for several versions that there is a problem with the first connection to a network folder via SMB. The folder is on Win11, I connect via SMB. I have a shortcut to this folder added in Favorites. After trying to connect it takes several seconds, then I get an in/out error from Forlift. https://share.cleanshot.com/dlHtZPdD

The connection through Finder works although the folder entry is not instant the first time, I have to wait a few seconds. When I get to the destination folder via Finder then the connection via ForkLift works without problem and is instantaneous.
That’s how I handle it now, but it’s not convenient or optimal.

Connecting to Synology drives via SMB where there are several shared folders is also not instantaneous (as it happens via Finder) – you have to wait 5-10 seconds until a window appears to select the folders (drives) that are available. The drives are ssd/nvme so this is not the time it takes until regular HDDs come out of sleep.
I remember that this was not the case before.

    1. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Please send us an email regarding this issue and also send us a screen recording showing us the problem (Finder vs ForkLift, error messages, etc.) at support [at] binarynights [dot] com

  8. This version is absolutely useless! If you group the files by file type and then sort them in the browser, the list jumps back and forth constantly. You’re just busy trying to find the file you selected seconds before because the sorting of the file types keeps changing. That’s so bad.
I’ve deleted Forklift for now – and am considering whether I should ask for my money back!
