ForkLift 4.4.1 is available

ForkLift 4.4.1macOS-Tahoe Remote Connections and Icon Preview

A variety of small and not so small fixes

Tabs are now restored correctly

One of the most important improvements in this version is that your tabs are properly restored after restarting ForkLift, even when they contained remote connections. This means you can continue exactly where you left off, without having to reopen your remote servers manually.

Reliable 32 px icon previews

We have also addressed a long-standing issue where icon previews disappeared in List View when the 32 px size was selected, especially while scrolling through large directories. With this fix, previews remain visible and consistent, making it easier to identify your files.

Better handling of full-width whitespaces

For users working with Japanese or Chinese filenames, we fixed an issue where full-width whitespace characters were not copied correctly in Terminal style paths. This ensures that the paths can be used in Terminal correctly.

Sidebar Editor improvements

ForkLift now remembers when you show or hide favorite groups in the Sidebar using the Sidebar Editor. Previously, these changes were not preserved after restarting the app.

Other improvements

Alongside these key changes, ForkLift 4.4.1 also brings a series of smaller fixes and refinements, such as layout adjustments, icon alignment, and cleaning up leftover macOS Tahoe-style menu icons.

Full List of changes:

Fixes

  • Fixes a minor layout issue in the Settings window
  • Fixes an issue where full-width whitespaces were escaped incorrectly when copying the Terminal style path
  • Fixes the icon preview loading issue in List View when the 32 px icon size was selected
  • Fixes an issue with Quick Look for items whose names start with a space
  • Fixes an alignment issue of the cloud icon (used for downloading large files) inside the Preview Pane on remote servers
  • Removes the remaining macOS Tahoe-style menu icons (most were already removed in the last version)
  • Fixes an issue that prevented showing and hiding favorite groups in the Sidebar using the Sidebar Editor
  • Fixes an issue introduced in version 4.4 that prevented remote locations from reopening after restarting ForkLift

  1. When will the next update be? At present, the application is constantly crashing in Tahoe? So far, with every crash, I have been clicking on report crash to send in logs.

    1. Which version is crashing? Version 4.4.1? If yes, please send us the crash report directly. Copy and paste the crash report into a txt file and send it to us at support [at] binarynights [dot] com

      1. Yes, it is 4.4.1 that’s been crashing. I have disabled it as a replacement for finder, and currently assessing it. Will send an email with logs when it crashes next. Thanks,

  2. App still does not recode NFD filenames to NFC (UTF-8). Everything with non-latin filename is being uploaded “broken”.

    1. To clarify:

ForkLift uploads UTF-8 in macOS decomposed form.
      For example – the Cyrillic letter Й is being decomposed to И = U+0418 + ◌̆ = U+0306
      Encoded in UTF-8 → D0 98 CC 86
      URL-encoded → %D0%98%CC%86

A Windows user (any browser) will try to access the file “Й.png” as:
      Encoded in UTF-8 → D0 99
      URL-encoded → %D0%99

      and receive 404

  3. There is an error with using a Wacom tablet and Forklift 4.4.1. Forklift does not allow the breadcrumb menu items to be selected at the top of the columns, or the ability to close windows (ie. the Sync window).

However Tahoe does not allow the Wacom pen to select any OS buttons either. They have notified Apple of this but as yet there is no fix. I’m guessing Forklift is related to this as well, but just wanted to check.

    1. I’m sorry that you are having this issue. Unfortunately, we can’t test this issue on a Wacom tablet. It is very likely that these issues are related and we can’t fix it ourselves. Let’s hope Apple fixes the problem.
